Ytterbium Oxide is a highly insoluble thermally stable Ytterbium source suitable for glass, optic and ceramic applications. Ytterbium Oxide is generally immediately available in most volumes. Ultra high purity, high purity, submicron and nanopowder forms may be considered. Ytterbium is applied to fiber amplifier and fiber optic technologies and in lasing applications. It has a single dominant absorption band at 985 in the infra-red useful in silicon photocells to convert radiant energy to electricity. Oxide compounds are not conductive to electricity. Rare Earth oxide compounds are basic anhydrides and can therefore react with acids and with strong reducing agents in redox reactions. High purity Ytterbium Oxide are widely applied as a doping agent for garnet crystals in lasers a important colourant in glasses and porcelain enamel glazes.
